The Silviculture and Applied Forest Ecology Lab in the Department of Forest Resources at the University of Minnesota is made up of individuals from the D’Amato lab. Research in this lab focuses on integrating patterns of stand development and productivity into integrative silvicultural systems and approaches designed to meet a diversity of objectives, including sustainable commodity production, maintenance of native biodiversity and complexity, and the enhancement of carbon storage and sequestration. Much of this work is in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station, as well as state agencies (e.g., Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources), The Nature Conservancy, and private industry within the Lake States region. In addition, the lab contributes as a consortium member to the research and outreach efforts of the US Department of the Interior Northeast Climate Science Center.
